Many flights arrive into El Prat Airport late at night. Avoid the stress of an expensive taxi by choosing to stay the night in the vicinity of the airport.
Although El Prat isn’t far from downtown, the stress of taking a taxi and arriving in the middle of an unfamiliar city laden with luggage is not the way to start a holiday. Some choose to spend the night in one of the cheap hotels near Barcelona Airport, and make their way into the city at a leisurely pace the next day.
Most of the hotels that are closest to the airport are four-star and generally aimed at a business audience. This does mean that bargains can be had at weekends though. The cheaper hotels are generally located in the nearby town of El Prat de Llobregat, from which the airport takes its name, a quick ten-minute drive from the airport.
The Barcelona Airport Hotel is, as you might expect, located close to the airport itself, less than two miles from the terminals. It also hosts a relatively large number of guests, meaning that despite the low prices, you get a lot of amenities for your money. Those who stay at the hotel can enjoy a generously-sized pool, restaurant, fitness centre, bar and free WiFi internet access.
There are also a bunch of facilities that are especially useful for business travellers, including meeting rooms, airport transportation and a shuttle bus service. If you need to hold meetings at the hotel, there is also a business centre, complete with internet access, providing you with office facilities away from home.
The Best Western Hotel Alfa Aeropuerto was recently voted one of the best value hotels in the whole of Barcelona, thanks to its low prices, excellent room service and modern decor. The hotel itself, run by the chain Best Western, is just a mile away from the airport, providing you with unparalleled access to the rest of the world. Just like the BAH airport hotel, the Best Western offers a broad range of different facilities for guests, including a gym, pool, spa and bar/lounge.
As part of the price of every room, guests get room service, and there are plenty of facilities for business travellers, including laundry services and banquet rooms. Though this hotel is a great stop off for families, it’s probably better suited for couples and international business travellers.
But don’t forget! Central Barcelona is linked to the airport by frequent train and coach services, and the new metro line extension is useful if you’re staying in the Eixample district. Even with a late arrival, consider staying in some of the hotels in Barcelona itself.
