Day Trips from A Coruña

Beautiful beach at Ferrol

A Coruna is a charismatic city full of charm and beauty. It often falls behind some of the more well-known tourist spots in Spain, but this city is perfect for an intriguing getaway.

There are some awe-inspiring things to see and do here, but one of the best things about A Coruna is its location.

Set in the municipality of Galicia, this makes the city an ideal base for a Spanish holiday. There are plenty of day trips from A Coruna that you can enjoy, and here are some of the best on offer:

See Galicia’s capital; Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela offers so much for interested tourists. There are a few main sights for you to see here, with the first being the Old Town. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site with some unreal architecture and plenty of photo opportunities.

The next thing on your list is the Camino de Santiago – a massive cathedral that’s the pride and joy of the city. People come from all over the world to see this site, so make sure you stop off during your trip.

Along with this, there are some glorious parks and gardens around the city, with plenty of museums and galleries as well. It’s a city that offers so much, and you can get there in under an hour from your base in A Coruna.

Experience peace and quiet on the beaches of Ferrol

Ferrol is a busy port city that’s still used by many boats to this day. You can spend some time watching everyone at work on their boats, but the real reason to come here is the tranquillity on offer on the beaches.

Usually, most beaches in Spain are packed full of families, tourists, and local people all creating a lot of noise. So, it can be hard to really lie back and relax when you’re on holiday. But, make a very short trip to Ferrol, and you will find some very quiet beaches. They’re vast, the sand is golden, and the ocean is a clear blue. Bring a picnic and some towels, then spend the whole day having a natural detox in the sun.

Journey to the end of the world in Finisterre

Cape Finisterre is a very interesting place as it was once believed to be the end of the world. People used to come from far and wide to get a glimpse of the edge of the earth, and it’s still a popular pilgrimage spot to this day. Don’t be shocked if you see people ripping up or burning their clothes on the steep cliffs, as this is a tradition for many pilgrims.

You don’t have to do this, but it might be quite fun to experience! Finisterre is also home to a few marvellous beaches which you can relax on, and some ancient stone and rock formations are well worth checking out as well. All in all, it’s one of the more intriguing places in this area of Spain.

A Coruna offers many delights within the city limits, but extend your trip to nearby areas if you want to see more of Galicia. These are the best day trips from A Coruna, so start planning them right away!
